The Cocktail Hour ft. JUSTICE – Access.All.Arenas

justice

By FAR the best mix we’ve had on the Cocktail Hour!

Can you hear that blood curdling scream in the begining? Ya, thats me. Not in the recording of course, that’s silly. I’m made that noise right here in my office and you heard it from wherever you’re reading this from right now.

Daft Punk Countdown

daftpunk-noend

The most anticipated album of my life is due to drop tomorrow! My hopes are so so high. The electronic album just doesn’t get done these days and I’m so glad No End  is getting all the hype it deserves. Which is a lot. Daft Punk are undeniably the most influential and important artists in the dance music world. They invented popular electronic music with Homework and defined the modern dance album with Discovery. And with Discovery came the greatest song of all time:

Human After All  album and tour gave birth to the most played album in my music library, the live album, Alive 2007

Then the two Frenchman directed the entire score for the remake of the visual masterpiece, Tron. It was as much a treat for the ears as it was the eyes.

We’ve heard very little about the new album but any info that comes out get gobbled up by the blogs instantly. We know they have worked with Nile Rodgers. We know they have worked with Chilly Gonzales. We have a 15 second clip that you can listen to on repeat here:

Everyone is beyond excited. I’m also praying for a world tour. Or shit, a concert anywhere. I would go to Mongolia to see Daft Punk.

The Cocktail Hour ft. Flight Facilities

This is a really amazing cocktail mix! Its a three hour journey through three decades of amazing music. Specially curated by Flight Facilities for your listening and educational enjoyment!

I encourage you to check out their blog post about the process to make these mixes. Its truly mind blowing and I want to give them so much credit. Basically, they were commissioned to do 4 mixes in a month for Triple J but they didn’t want to be scraping the bottle of the barrel for the last mix. So they did concept mixes that represented each of the last 4 decades. And they killed it. Each decade is as emotional as it is energetic. Perfect for this beautiful sunny Friday!

Oh, and they are playing at Fortune this Sunday!

Do you remember your first time?

Oh, mine? My first time? The first time I ever heard a house album. Well, her name was Blossom by Agoria. I met her during my time at a volunteer radio station. After my show was done I’d stay late at the back digging through crates. I must admit, I wasn’t sure if we were right for each other. She was looking for a relationship and I (being young and stupid at the time) was sucked into a macho-bullshit-spread-my-seed-screw-anything-that-walks mindset. She told me to Think Different. I told my buddies about the Spanish Girl I met. Later, it turned out that she was french when I actually listened. We had regular Kofea together even if I wasn’t getting into her pants. And -boom- before I knew it, Stereolove. You know? Real, Organic affection. I still remember 2Thousand3. She showed me a new world. She was Presque Un Ange. I actually wrote a Haiku. She was Worth It.
