four tet : jamie xx : lion

Anytime a jamie xx track comes on on my mp3 player, i always catch myself thinking who produced this quality track? And of course i momentarily realize it’s jamie xx. The 1/4 (1/3) of the XX is seriously the master craftsman of electronic sound. Prove me wrong, please!

James Blake – Retrograde

Its easy to see that dubstep has lost its way. You don’t need to see the glow stick toting shirtless fellows to know that we’ve fucked up. Fortunately, when the bros were busy throwing down, they failed to notice the rise of the next generation of bass music. Now, its time to crown our prince of dubstep. James Blake.

Retrograde is an ethereal yet powerful single off James’ sophomore album. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song that hints of another amazing album from the young Brit.

The album, Overgrown, drops on April 8th, 2013. You can also catch James at the Commodore Ballroom on April 25th.

DISCLOSURE

Image

If you are into chill beats with a groovy feel give this UK based garage-house duo Disclosure a listen. Brothers, Guy and Howard Lawrence, mixed their first track at the youthful ages of 18 and 16. With only a few years experience, now 21 and 18, these two are blossoming into distinguished artists producing sultry dub/bass mixes that make you want to dance.

After attending their Canadian debut show in Toronto I was instantly hooked. With drum kits, keyboards, and synthesizers, in combination with their soulful beats, I couldn’t help but feel good.  These guys deliver the perfect mixture of electronic sounds and emotional elements.

Check out these tunes for a small taste of what this dynamic duo has to offer.

“Chronicles Of A Fallen Love” – The Bloody Beetroots ft. Greta Svabo Bech

Sir Bob Cornelious Rifo is truly an artist. The man has transcended the boundaries of any one medium or genre. Expanding from music to fashion to photography, he has come a very long way since the birth of this electro rocker. If you’ve followed him since Warp, as I have, you’ve witnessed a growth and maturity from Bob while maintaining his edge. He defends his throne as the King of Electro Punk with energy and innovation.

This song plays out like a real love story, moments of utter chaos held together by tender sweetness. The dark and moody vocals of Greta Svabo Bech are united with some Daft Punk-esque synth lines to create a beautiful and timeless classic.

Theo Berndt – Blueberry Clouds (Rebel Rebel Remix)

Stop moving, close your eyes, open your ears. You’re in a virtual world now, and the disco house bass line in your head has become the blood flowing through your veins. The sky flutters with Blueberry Clouds that bleed hip swaying beats, and the ground throbs under foot with minimal but bone moving bass.

Swedish DJs Rebel Rebel have come up with a chemical concoction here that makes Theo Berndt’s Blueberry Clouds come alive. This disco house group smudges up Berndt’s original, holding onto the haunting vocals but donating a four-to-the-floor beat where needed. The final product is a track without empty spaces, and an inviting world in which the dancer has all the melodic sustenance he needs.
