The Making of Pretty Lights’ New Album: A Color Map of the Sun

My obsession with Pretty Lights is well documented. We already knew he was one of the best producers our there but my GOD he has taken it to the next level.

In the past his music was forged by digging through record crates for hundreds of samples and cutting them with that Pretty Lights soul and funk to get something completely extraordinary. But this time around he made all the sample on vinyl himself. Let that sink in for a moment. He recorded musicians and singers in New York and New Orleans and recorded that all to vinyl. Just so he could then sample all of it! Nothing digital! He wanted the warmth and crackle that you can only get from a vinyl and damn, is it ever authentic.

From wax, to vocals, to musicians, to synthesizers, Pretty Lights pushes and evolves his one of a kind sound on A Color Map of the Sun. Enjoy the documentary. The album drops on July 2nd!

and seriously, 25:55, dat kitty!
