The Cocktail Hour ft. JUSTICE [A † THE UNIVERSE]

My coworker and I have a little tradition going in my office on Fridays. We call it French House Friday and we simultaneously rock out inside our headphones to classic French house. Usually Justice or Daft Punk. I work in a pretty quiet office with a lot of older guys which makes the party in my headphones quite the contrast.

Every Friday. Banging French house music. You should join us.

Alex in Van

Recovering from his voyage on Holy Ship Alex Mertic (Alex Drury) is a British musical magician and he is coming to Vancouver. This is why you should care.

He is riding high on the success of several new releases, most notable is his collaboration with Oliver:

A hugely popular single “Heart Weighs a Ton” has a fresh remix by Galantis.

You must not forget to check out the Ammunition series that will include Part 4 soon. A highlight from part 2 includes another Oliver duel effort:

And the crazy remix by UZ of the anthem Rave Weapon:

Part 3 includes a Mark Yardley happy-go-lucky collaboration:

The man himself filled his ears with a mix of indie guitar bands but took hold of Fatboy Slim and late 90’s French house, especially Daft Punk. Seeing him live is definitely unique. He says that he never truly has a concrete plan, but just an idea of what works best at a little club or vast festival. “In a club you have the ability to be take people on a bit more of a journey while at a festival nine times out of ten people want it to be more immediate” (source). That’s not to say that it always turns out that way. Alex Metric is focused on reacting to the crowd and not a playlist.

What’s his number one favorite artist to work with? The legendary Jacques Lu Cont, real name Stuart Price (source). The epic, epic track of Safe With You is proof:

Alex Metric in Vancouver on a Friday Night. My body is ready.

The Cocktail Hour ft. Skrillex+Mija

Sometimes I don’t think the people in the circles I run in give Skrillex enough credit. Its a very common attitude among the those who have evolved beyond bro-step and think they have left the likes of Skrillex behind. I’m here to tell you that you’re not only wrong but ol’ Skrilli is probably the one leaving you behind.

How many superstar DJs go exploring after a headlining spot at Bonaroo only to stumble upon a Burning Man art car and proceed, upon invitation, to join little know DJ Mija for a  sunrise DJ set? Not a lot. I’ve seen Sonny play in some intimate settings but this would have been pretty magical. I’m just glad somebody recorded it.

The Bloody Beetroots: HIDE – Art and Artists

For me this is the most anticipated album since Random Access Memories. Which I know wasn’t that long ago but c’mon.  We’ve been craving a Beetroots album since 2009s Romborama. Not to say we have been teased with amazing singles like Church of Noise  and Spank and most recently a collab with Sir Paul fucking McCartney. But lets get serious. Bob has been a busy man. Between doing a year long DJ tour with Tommy Tea and developing an entirely new live show, the guy has been assembling some of the most amazing cross-generational talent for a massive album. Check out this track listing.

1. Spank feat. Tai & Bart B More
2. Raw feat. Tommy Lee
3. Runaway feat. Greta Svabo Bech
4. Chronicles Of A Fallen Love feat. Greta Svabo Bech
5. The Furious feat. Penny Rimbaud
6. Out Of Sight feat. Paul McCartney & Youth
7. Albion with Junior
8. Reactivated
9. All The Girls (Around The World) feat. Theophilus London
10. Please Baby feat. P-Thugg of Chromeo
11. Glow In The Dark feat. Sam Sparro
12. The Source (Chaos & Confusion)
13. The Beat feat. Peter Frampton
14. Rocksteady (The Bloody Beetroots vs. Gigi Barocco)

Paul McCartney and Peter Frampton, are you for real! And my dude, P-Thugg, I love you. This album is going to be amazing.
