four tet : jamie xx : lion

Anytime a jamie xx track comes on on my mp3 player, i always catch myself thinking who produced this quality track? And of course i momentarily realize it’s jamie xx. The 1/4 (1/3) of the XX is seriously the master craftsman of electronic sound. Prove me wrong, please!

James Blake – Retrograde

Its easy to see that dubstep has lost its way. You don’t need to see the glow stick toting shirtless fellows to know that we’ve fucked up. Fortunately, when the bros were busy throwing down, they failed to notice the rise of the next generation of bass music. Now, its time to crown our prince of dubstep. James Blake.

Retrograde is an ethereal yet powerful single off James’ sophomore album. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song that hints of another amazing album from the young Brit.

The album, Overgrown, drops on April 8th, 2013. You can also catch James at the Commodore Ballroom on April 25th.

the weekend wind down ft. Sean Carey : Hoyas

It’s that time of the week.

Time to cool down, slow down and wind down..

Delve into the sonic atmosphere of Hoyas. A new EP by Sean Carey (known for being the drummer of Bon Iver). Having studied percussion professionally, it is no accident this EP has that contemporary minimal percussion sounds fused w/ melody and ambient vocals similar to that of Jamie XX and James Blake.

Layback and listen.

Buraka Som Sistema : Voodoo Love

Nice progressive track from Buraka Som Sistema: a group out of Portugal that is on a mission to fuse the techno dance vibe with the soul of the African kuduro.

Voodoo Love featuring Sara Tavares & Terry Lynn

I’m sure you’ve heard of ’em from their very well known track Hangover (Bababa). Dagger away, children!

I love their progressive beats! Shake your pirate treasures to Candonga!
