James Blake – Retrograde

Its easy to see that dubstep has lost its way. You don’t need to see the glow stick toting shirtless fellows to know that we’ve fucked up. Fortunately, when the bros were busy throwing down, they failed to notice the rise of the next generation of bass music. Now, its time to crown our prince of dubstep. James Blake.

Retrograde is an ethereal yet powerful single off James’ sophomore album. It’s a hauntingly beautiful song that hints of another amazing album from the young Brit.

The album, Overgrown, drops on April 8th, 2013. You can also catch James at the Commodore Ballroom on April 25th.

the weekend wind down ft. Sean Carey : Hoyas

It’s that time of the week.

Time to cool down, slow down and wind down..

Delve into the sonic atmosphere of Hoyas. A new EP by Sean Carey (known for being the drummer of Bon Iver). Having studied percussion professionally, it is no accident this EP has that contemporary minimal percussion sounds fused w/ melody and ambient vocals similar to that of Jamie XX and James Blake.

Layback and listen.

James Blake from Klevierwerke to Order/Pan

Before James Blake released his debut album in February he was already noticed due to his EP’s. The latest one by the name Klavierwerke was released in October 2010. Klavierwerke stands for “piano work” which is exactly what he did–played around with some keys. Later he was nominated for the Critic’s Choice Award of the 2011 BRIT Awards and was the runner-up for the Sound of 2011 Award.

Here’s a bite of Klavierwerke:

Please remember that this chill music is a waste of time if you’re listening through some laptop speakers. Give yourelf and your ears a favour and plug it into something that can produce decent sound. Continue reading

chillout this long weekend w/ James Drake

That’s right James Drake, it’s no typo. This is a project by Bombé & Mr.Carribean. Bombé (aka Kid Queasy) wittily plays on the names of the two artists: James Blake [the founder of the post-dubstep movement] & Drake [the successful R&B singer] to create this great mixtape of the two. Seamlessly flip-flopping from one track to the next, Bombé shows off his DJ skills. Continue reading
